This unit explores the concepts of personal and social identity and how they can be communicated through photography. Students will examine how photographers use visual elements to convey messages about identity and will be encouraged to create their own photographic narratives that reflect their understanding of personal and social identities. Ethical considerations will be emphasized throughout, guiding students in making responsible choices in representing themselves and others.

Urban Perspective
Intro to Space & Proportion
Statement of Inquiry: Space and scale can be represented aesthetically through composition.

In this unit, Visual Art students inquire into how space and scale can be represented aesthetically through purposeful composition. Students create informative posters familiarizing themselves with linear perspective vocabulary and conventions. Students use their newly acquired knowledge to develop detailed imaginative cityscapes consisting of both organic and geometric buildings, nature various forms of transportation in 1, 2 and 3 point perspective. During the unit, students also learn how to manipulate Watercolour paint and pen to create the illusion of depth and detail in their final Linear Perspective paintings.

Illustration | Storytelling| Water Colour
Statement of Inquiry: Literary identity and interpretation can be enhanced or transformed by aesthetic narrative.

In this unit, students conduct a literary review on the power of illustration in enhancing text. They develop their skills by emulating the styles of established illustrators, such as Shel Silverstein, Sir John Tenniel, Quentin Blake, Khoa Le, Sara O'Leary, Aaron Becker, Dallas Clayton, and Dieter Braun. Finally, students use their favourite novels as source material to create their own illustrations.​
